This is the song you’ve been wanting to hear for a while now.
Like an emotion that’s just been swept under the carpet as one hears a knock on the door of one’s heart, this song is meant to be tucked away, and kept safe, for rainy days, days of love, days of anguish and days of remembrance.
Do NOT play this song over and over again.
Please, do not get tired of it. (You know you won’t, but I have to say it.
If, and when, someone comes around in life and asks you if you heard any new amazing songs, be very mindful of whether you want to pass on this gem or not.
Don’t. If they don’t get it. It can’t be wasted, correct?
If, and when, someone else comes around in life and asks you if you’ve heard this song of Geeta Dutt’s that has blown their mind and heart to pieces, just hug them. Whisper, and tell them the secret.
That you had been holding on way too long to share this feeling with someone.
And you’re so glad you found someone.
What a beautiful way of finding happiness, isn’t it?
This one’s dedicated to Suhel! He whispered the secret. And here I am.
Secretly passing it on.
To you.
From the film Anubhav by the GENIUS, OBVS, Gulzar sahab. This is a 1971 movie, and I’m loving the loving between Sanjeev Kumar and Tanuja!

It’s funny how I find out at the end of the song that I fall in love with that that was written by Gulzar. What a fun way to fall in love all over again, isn’t it?
Sung by the beautiful, beautiful Geeta Dutt.

Meri Jaan Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho
Meri jaan
Mujhe ‘Jaan’ na kaho
Meri jaan
Meri jaan..
Meri jaan.
My life
Don’t call me your life
My life
My love
My soul.
Jaan na kaho
Anjaan mujhe
Jaan kahaan rehti hai sada?
Anjaane, kya jaane
Jaanke jaaye kaun bhala?
Don’t call me Life, love
Little do you know
That Life doesn’t stay around forever
Those who know little
Would know that no one leaves knowingly
Meri jaan.
My life.
Mujhe ‘Jaan’ na kaho
Meri jaan..
Meri jaan.
Don’t call me Life, my love
My love
My life.
Sookhe saawan baras gaye
Kitni baar inn aankhon se
Do boondein na barsein
Inn bheegi palkon se
Meri jaan..
A dry monsoon overflows
Several times from these eyes as tears
But never have I really cried
From these misty eyes
My life.
Meri jaan
Mujhe ‘Jaan’ na kaho
Meri jaan..
Meri jaan.
My life
Don’t call me Life, yes?
My love
My life
Honth jhuke jab honthon par
Saans uljhi ho saanson mein
Do judwa honthon ki
Baat kaho aankhon se
When your lips bend over mine
And when our breath intertwines
Tell me the story of that kiss
With your eyes
Meri jaan
Mujhe ‘Jaan’ na kaho
Meri jaan
Mujhe ‘Jaan’ na kaho
Meri jaan *giggles*
Meri jaan!
My life
Don’t call me your Life, no
My love
I don’t want to be called ‘Life’
My loooove 😀
My life!
Devnagri:
Impressive, keep on the work. God Bless

I heard the song today after long time. Very true ! I can’t imagine if i am fed with this song! It takes me out of world, may say it creates new world for me. If we could find such few songs, so loveable, they are enough to pass whole life. Sometimes our feeling are beyond words , so is here. I felt every bit of your emotions . Great!!! Talk of some other song. Anoop, Dehradun

This is one of my recent discoveries, thanks to mom who made me listen to it. The beauty of old Hindi music is how they can convey the deepest emotions with a few words. Truly impressive.
