19 years of Dil Chahta Hai!

Cannot believe. It also feels like I was much older when I met those three friends, got entwined in their stories, discovered Goa as the prime getaway location with friends, and so much more.

Wasn’t the film a tribute to all love stories? And friendships? As each year passes by, we will continue to wonder what made this film so heartwarming and why we can’t stop rewatching it with friends and people we love every now and again.

That’s a nice aftertaste to leave on someone’s mind no? The sense of wonderment. A never ending journey of figuring out the whys and the hows.

I just want to curl up in a blanket, and keep replaying this wonderful song that was my ultimate favourite from the film.

Akshay Khanna. The unexpected surge of his emotions. That look on his face. Dimple Kapadia.

“Sid! Bas.. bas abhi aa rahi hun.”

“Haan, koi baat nahi. (frowns) Take your time.”

That’s it.

 

This song is about dipping your feet in the ocean of love and really wondering what it is. When the mind is kicking and screaming and making you feel like you’re on the top of the world, and your heart’s beating for another person- maybe then, you see all the things this song talks about. And hopefully after.

 

Oh, and finally, that painting. 

Raw. 

The melody, the lyrics, the singing.. it all just works perfectly. Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy’s soulful music, Srinivas’ singing and lyrics by Javed Akhtar sahab. Why wouldn’t it work!? From the beloved film, Dil Chahta Hai.
